The City of Bright Lights

My favorite place to hang out in New York City is Times Square. I go there all the time because there is always something new to see. There is so much energy and excitement; it just gives me the “feel of New York City”. I love the lights and the noise and all the people. Everything is open all night and you can hardly tell it’s dark out! It’s like the city’s playground. Even the subway sign is lit up. Everything there is so much fun, even the regular stuff. The billboards are huge and the lights are bright. There is an infinite number of things to look at and it seems like it’s always changing. For this reason, I love bringing people to Times Square that have never been to New York. I also think it’s a great place for people watching; there are so many different types of people there from all walks of life. People who speak different languages, rich, poor, homeless people, all races. It’s such a  rich and interesting mix. I especially love watching the tourists take pictures of everything. I think Times Square is the quintessential New York City that people think of when they are visiting. It has the bright lights, the excitement and the noise that you expect out of the greatest city in the world.

Summer Nights

The summer in New York City is enhanced with all the beaches, concerts ,and movies. The Fourth of July is celebrated with much rigor and enthusiasm. New Yorkers keep themselves and others entertained with activities like firework cruises, picnics, and contests. Labor Day is another fun summer holiday. On the first Monday in September, which marks the end of summer, people again have rooftop picnics, head out to the beaches, and participate in all sorts of fun activities. Beyond specific holidays, though, the summer heat can be brutal. Pools are the best way to cool off. New York holds a large number of pools in health clubs and recreation centers. In the scorching heat of summer, if you can’t find a pool, ice cream suddenly becomes a blessing in disguise. Of course, people choose clothes for each season. They use a brand new set of clothes during the summer. People wear light clothes, usually made of cotton. Both men and women wear minimal clothing, so they can stay as cool as possible. Instead of shoes, you’ll see people in sandals. This way, they can escape from the heat. Thus, people choose the best way to keep themselves entertained and “cooled off” during the hot, sweet summer days.

Hangin’ Out in Central Park

New York City in the summer can’t be beat.  Not only does the city have incredible attractions, it has a picturesque natural environment.  Central Park is the ideal place to experience the pleasing appeal of nature, while still feeling the electricity of the city.  The warm weather makes the magic of the park even more phenomenal.

My favorite thing to do when the warm weather hits is to grab a picnic basket and head out to the park.  There I can relax with my boyfriend, soak up some sun, thrive on mother nature’s gifts, and people watch all at once.  New York has some of the most interesting guests, and Central Park is a great place to see the unique variety.  Because the city skyline peeks out over the trees of the park, I can still feel the pulse of the city.  I can also benefit from the beautiful landscaping and freshness of the park. The greens of the area’s many trees combined with the scents of mutliple flowers is breathtaking. I am an extreme chocolate lover, so before I head out to the park, I stop at the Hershey Store.  I fill my picnic basket with all the necessary goodies to make my afternoon complete.  There is nothing like dining in the heart of the city while enjoying a leisurely, peaceful summer afternoon.

Central Park in the Summer

I’ve had the chance to experience summer in New York City a few times now and I absolutely love it!  There are so many things to see and experience when the weather is nice.  My favorite thing to do in the summer is to visit Central Park.  The park itself is so beautiful and there seems to be miles of sidewalks to walk on through the park to experience the beauty of it all.  There are so many places that you can just throw down a blanket and have a picnic.  I like to make it an all day event when I go to Central Park and trust me, it’s not hard to do.  Usually, right on the edge of Central Park there is some local entertainment (street entertainers, if you will).  These street entertainers are fabulous!  I have seen some stuff there that is better than I would see on Broadway!  These people basically perform for just tips!  I have seen some basketball shows, street dancing groups, musicians, etc.  It seems like the entertainment there is endless!  Lastly, the nighttime at Central Park in the summer is beautiful as well.  My favorite is if there is some local musicians playing outside somewhere and you get to watch the sun set.  Like I said, when the weather is nice in New York you really could spend all day at Central Park checking out the beauty and endless culture!  Not to mention, it’s a great place to go on a date in NYC. I would highly recommend it!

Beautiful Summer Days in NYC

It was summer in New York — a very hot, clear and warm summer! My friends and I were studying at NYU, I was finishing up my history major. Right after our classes, we would rush for some authentic New York hot dogs and pizza with cold drinks. Relaxing in those street side cafes or just sitting on those benches in the park enjoying the snacks with some hot gossip was so much fun. During those warm (okay hot) months, my favorite thing to do was go window shopping. My friends and I used to go crazy, but we also used it to pass the time. Of course, we also enjoyed the fairs that would resemble a mini-carnival. How much fun the streets in New York have within them! The best part, when everyone was around, would be going to a horror movie, preferably in an air-conditioned theatre with some chips and coke. Screaming loudly and scaring others was always so much fun. We’d usually spend our nights drinking some lovely mock tails (we weren’t 21 at the time) and going around with friends to a disco or a bar with a few friends to just hang out. Apart from all these activities, occasional sightseeing would always be a refreshing option, whenever some relative or friend was visiting. Overall those warm, hot days never felt really harsh as there are many options to live with, once you are in New York.
