The Greatest Place to Relax

Two years ago I went to New York to spend my time off with my sister. She took me everywhere around the city. I saw all of the typical tourist spots like the Empire State Building, the Statue of Liberty, etc. After long days of walking around there was a very lovely restaurant that we used to go to for dinner. As both of us are fond of Chinese and Mexican food we went to “403 Restaurant”. This is the nicest place I have ever visited in my life. All the dishes here are so tasty that you feel as if they are homemade.  To this day I have not eaten anything tastier than the food offered there. Besides the flavorful dishes this restaurant has many other advantages, like the atmosphere, the kindness of the owners, which you feel every moment while you cherish the good food. This restaurant is a great place for both relaxing with friends or having a romantic evening with the person who you love. This restaurant attracted me at once and I fell in love with it. My sister and I went there nearly every day, of course, when we had free time. That was the best vacation I have ever had.

New York in Two Days

My girlfriend and I took a two day getaway in New York City this past spring break after an exhausting first day consisting of traveling and heading to the hotel.
We started the morning early leaving the hotel at 7 am for breakfast. I planned to take my girlfriend to Good Enough To Eat on the upper west side between 83rd and 84th.  The restaurant was very busy regardless of the time but proved it was worth the wait. My girlfriend and I shared a coconut chocolate pancake and an apple cinnamon pancake along with some coffee and orange juice and made small talk with our neighboring tables. The experience was great.
After our morning treat, we walked down Broadway and went window-shopping. On the way we stopped by Zabars, and though we did not buy anything but a bagel and a couple of chocolate bars, we enjoyed the ambiance. Walking down south towards Times Square we also stopped by an Apple store and had fun looking at the newly released iPad and other Apple products.
Enjoying the sun, we slowly made our way down to Columbus Circle where we stopped by the Museum of Art & Design. As a Graphics Design student I couldn’t help but be attracted to the architecture of the museum and gift shop. I however decided not to go inside the museum, but took the subway to the MOMA and settled there for a few hours while my girlfriend endured a few hours of me babbling about some of their pieces. She however did seem to enjoy the gift shop on the way out. With time running out we headed to Port Authority to catch our ride back home and end our great two-day date in New York City.

Christmas Time in the City

We booked a last minute flight to New York for our Christmas shopping largely because we could. We had been given some money at Thanksgiving, and we both had a week s vacation owing to us. We literally ran out of the terminal, caught one of the iconic yellow cabs downtown, checked in and then headed straight out. We went straight to Times Square, and managed to find some really cute (if not too cheap!) stores, including some great toys at F.A.O. Schwarz. That store is incredible, especially around Christmas time, when a lot of effort has been made with the decorations, and it s absolutely packed with children and families having a great time.
We had been put on to the string of second hand shops that line upper Broadway by a friend, and we were not disappointed. There are dozens, selling everything from maps to clothes and everything in between. My favourite was this tiny bookstore, on a second floor above a pizza restaurant, which had the most incredible collection of early hardback editions. I managed to pick up the 4th edition of Black Beauty for less than $100. Our Christmas shopping trip was put on hold as we traveled up and down this fantastic set of shops looking for presents for ourselves.

Statue of Liberty in the Summer

My favorite sightseeing spot in New York is the Statue of Liberty. The best part about it was learning about our country’s history of immigration with Ellis island, which is where the statue is located. The highlight of the statue itself was climbing up towards the top and looking out over the harbor. Don’t worry, there aren’t that many steps so even if you aren’t real mobile you can definitely get up. Be prepared for some security screening, nothing that takes long at all. I bought my tickets to New York online but I bought my ferry tickets in person. I would recommend spending at least a day viewing all that the Statue of Liberty and Ellis island has to offer. There are several other really neat attractions. There is a history museum built on the island, which is really interesting for visitors of all ages. My kids liked some of the historical documents and artifacts that they had. I first wanted to go to the Statue of Liberty ever since my friend told me he had a great time with his family there. My family had a great time too and the kids never got bored. There were some staff on the island and all of them were informative and friendly. There was a gift shop that I enjoyed, which had reasonable prices, too. There isn’t much in the way of food or anything else like that on Ellis island, so if you are going to go just be advised. Overall the whole experience is enjoyable, you will appreciate the ferry ride, the immigration museum and of course the shining beacon of liberty her self, the Statue of Liberty. I will visit the Statue of Liberty again as it is a reminder to me of our countries proud historical legacy of immigration and openness.

Just a Trip to NYC

After all of the stress getting ready to leave for a week, we were so excited to arrive in the city!  I was acting as tour guide for my mom, dad, and friend Lisa. We went to see South Pacific on Broadway and I am sad to say that I wouldn’t recommend it- the movie is better, so if you can only see one Broadway show, see something else.  It was still fun though. We visited the Plaza Hotel which was AMAZING!  Every time I’ve been to NYC, the Plaza has been under construction so I’ve never been able to go inside-so I was really excited to see it this time. We took the row boats out in Central Park which was so much fun!  We saw a lot of cute turtles. While mom and dad slept the afternoon away, Lisa and I walked through Central Park.  Sunday is the BEST day to see parks in NYC!  There are so many people there singing and dancing and just enjoying a day in the park! Monday Morning we went to Live With Regis and Kelly- It is a really fun show to go to and it’s free. After a week walking all around the city, we were completely EXHAUSTED!!!  We also ate WAY TOO MUCH delicious food and now I’m detoxing from sugar and junk for a week!  The weather was absolutely PERFECT! and we did indeed squeeze way too much into every day, but it was worth it (to me, but I think everyone else may have just been exhausted!)  I LOVE this city and am so glad I can visit every so often!
