CORRECTING THE PROBLEM
Refractive Surgery works by altering the shape of your
cornea, thus changing the way your eye focuses images. The number,
depth, length and placement of microincisions are carefully
planned based on your personal data.
- RADIAL KERATOTOMY (RK)
- To correct myopia, a procedure called
Radial Keratotomy (RK) is performed. Radial Keratotomy, has a 25 year
track record with over a million procedures performed worldwide.
Microincisions are made in a radial (or spoke-like) pattern which flattens
the cornea.
- EXCIMER LASER (PRK)
- On October 20, 1995, the F.D.A. approved the new Excimer Laser
which corrects mild to moderate degrees of nearsightedness, thereby
lessening or eliminating dependency on glasses or contact lenses.
To date 500,000 Excimer procedures have been performed worldwide.
The New Staar Visx Excimer Laser used by Dr. Saimovici corrects both
nearsightedness and astigmatism.
- PARALLEL MICROINCISON
- To correct astigmatism, parallel
microincisions are used. It is important to note that these procedures can
be combined.
- LAMELLAR KERATOTOMY
- For those who are farsighted, other
refractive procedures such as Lamellar Keratotomy or the Excimer or
Holmium Lasers can be used.
* No restrictions. No patch or shield is necessary after Radial
Keratotomy(RK) or the Excimer Laser.
* Radial Keratotomy (RK) and Photorefractive Keratotomy (PRK) are
painless procedures (anesthetic eye drops, no injections), that take
less than 10 minutes to perform.
