  • Bryant Park Grill 25 W. 40th St. behind N.Y. Public Library This New American Grill is great. Unfortunately the service and the quality of the food is sporadic. It is situated in a area.
  • Flowers 21 W. 17th St. bet 5th & 6th Aves. 212-691-8888. Rated as being one of the restaurants with the best garden's in the city Flowers is excellent. The price is expensive but your a receiving a great meal. The service is not great, but the bar is.
  • Harbour Lights South St. Seaport, Pier 17, 3rd fl. 212-227-2800. With fantastic views of the Brooklyn Bridge, and the harbour it will really enhance your overall experience. With quality American fare. It is a great place to eat at if you are in from out of town.
  • Hudson River Club 4 World Financial Ctr. 250 Vesey St. West St. 212-786-1500. With cuisine that is typical of the Hudson River Valley this restaurant is a success. Overall it is very solid. the majority of it's crowd is from Wall Street. Expensive but probably worth it.
  • Pipeline 2 World Financial Ctr. 225 Liberty St. South End Ave. 212-945-2755. One of the best outdoor restaurants in the downtown area. Awesome views of the Hudson plus great food.
  • Sequoia Pier 17, 89 Fulton St. South St. Seaport. 212-732-9090. With awesome views and basic yet quality food, it's great palce for tourists or businessmen after work. A very good deal.
  • Sign of the Dove 1110 Third Ave. 65th St. 212-861-8080. This East Side restaurant is one of the most romantic restaurants. It's American cuisine is fantastic and excellent for occasions.
  • Temple Bar 332 Lafayette St. Bleecker St. 212-925-4242. The best place for a date in the city. It is definately the most seductive bar. A good place for drinkers. Not very expensive.
  • The Water Club 500 E. 30th St. East River. 212-683-3333. Great for wedding's or parties. With quality American food and a nice view of the river, with the excellent service it makes you feel like royalty.
  • Top of the Tower Beekmam Tower Hotel, 3 Mitchell Pl, 26th fl. 1st Ave & 49th St. 212-355-7300. With a quality American menu, and great 360 degree views, it's a safe bet. There is live music after nine and even the price is pretty good.
  • Torre di Pisa19 W. 44th St. bet 5th & 6th Aves. 212-398-4400. One of the most bucolic restuarants in the entire city. If it's food looks as good as it does, anyone who eats there will most definately leave with a smile on their face. On the expensive side.
  • Verbena 54 Irving Pl. bet 17th & 18th Sts. 212-260-5454. Excellent garden, complemented by excellent food. The service, and appearance are also winners. A tad on the expensive side.
  • Water's Edge 44th Dr. & East River. 718-482-0033. With the quality of the food rapidly improving, and great view of the N.Y. skyline this one is tough to pass up. If you happen to be there when there is a grey sunset you are in for a real treat. The food also happens to be very good along with the serv i ce.

Despite its expensive menu it is worth every dollar. It is the type of place that is good for any kind of occasion.

While eating here you will experience no flaws in the service or the quality of the food. Located conviently in midtown on the ground floor of a town house, this is one place not to miss.

  • Fifty-seven, Fifty-seven 57th bet. Park & Madison 212-758-5757. Calm setting American cuisine, popular for business, breakfast, and lunches. Service is the highlight at this Midtowner, unfortunately the qulaity of the food is not always up to some people's expectations.
  • Good Enough to Eat Amsterdam bet. 83rd & 84th. 212-245-5336. Despite the long wait that you might encounter. This homey slice of Vermont, on the West Side has great food "fresh from the farm."
  • Gotham Bar & Grill 12 E 12th St. bet 5th Ave & University Pl. 212-620-4020 An overall winner. You won't leave here with any empty stomach, but maybe an empty wallet. Lunch happens to be much more affordable. Located in the East Village you will encounter a stupendous wine list, on top of super service. Despite the sometimes nois y atmosphere, the quality of the food makes it worth it.

If you are looking for an unrushed, attitude free dinner you have come to the right place. the staff are fntastic, and so is the quality of the food. the price might be a bit expensive, but you can always eat in the casual Tavern Room. You don't need t o make a reservation there.

  • Le Bar Bat 57th bet. 8th & 9th 212-307-7228. New American restaurant/nightclub, dim lights, cool bands, great for meeting someone late.
  • Lincoln Tavern 64th bet. Columbus & Central Park West 212-721-8271 .
  • Little Club York at 74th. 212-744-2900.
  • Lobby Lounge 57th bet. Park & Madison. 212-758-5700. With solid marks all around and an excellent price the Lobby Lounge is hard to beat. It has one of the prettiest lobby's in the entire city. It's American menu is excellent, and it's clientel can sometimes consist of people that are famous.

  • Manhattan Ocean Club 57 W. 58th St. bet 5th & 6th Aves. 212-371-7777 With beautiful scenery and excellent food the general consensus is that this place is extraordinary. If you are in Midtown and looking for seafood this is the right place to go to. Your best bet is soft shell crab.

  • Marlowe 46th bet. 8th & 9th NY, 212-765-3815. Romantic, attractive French, Country inn decoration, outdoor garden, and fireplace. But it has a limited menu.
  • Matthew's Third at 61st NY, 212-838-4343. Mediterranean Eastsider, island feeling wicker chairs, palm trees, transports you to a tropical island. the food is wonderful.
  • Mayfair 1st at 53rd. 212-421-6216. If you are looking for an old stryle American restaurant you have found the right place. While eating potatoes or meat you feel like you are back in the past. All of this is of course is complemented by excellent waitress service.

  • Park Avenue Cafe 100 E. 63rd St. Park Ave. 212-644-1900. You will be tempted not to eat your meal because it is so good looking. You will find quality American cusine at this East Side restaurant. If you can get a reservation for the table in the kitchen you will be in heaven.

  • Regency Park at 61st NY, 212-759-4100. New York City's ultimate power house for breakfast. Elegant, great for quiet business lunch or elegant pre-theater prix fixe.
  • Restaurant Two Two Two 79th bet. Broadway & Amsterdam NY, 212-799-0400. New American food and surroundings, luxurious and delicious. Quite expensive, but you can order from the price fixe menu. The service and sorroundings are quite excellent.
  • Ruppert's Third at 93rd. 212-831-1900. Simple all American meal. Crosstown pubs are great for burgers and beer. Overcrowded and understaffed ,cheap as you can get.
  • Rusty Staub's on 5th 5th at 47th. 212-682-1000. Sports bar, corporate feel for business lunching. Impressive babyback ribs and wine list.

  • Sarabeth's Madison at 75th NY, 212-570-3670. Quality American home style restaurants. the price of a meal and wait prove to be a large detterent.

  • Saranac Madison bet. 94th & 95th. 212-289-9600. Decent American food in a cozy Adirondack lodge setting. Diners complain of slipping quality by the staff.
  • Shelby Lexington bet. 70th & 71st. 212-988-4624. Excellent hamburger catering to an upscale crowd for singles.
  • Supper Club 47th bet. Broadway & 8th. 212-921-1940. Great for entertainment,ballroom dancing, big band music, wonderful experience. Well known, but not for it's continental food.
  • Symphony Cafe 56th at 8th NY, 212-397-9595.
  • Tatou 50th bet. Lexington & Third. 212-753-1144. Midtown 20s-style club entertaining funky and wild. Early for jazz or late for eclectic dancing with Euro crowd.
  • Tavern on the Green Central Park West at 67th NY, 212-873-3200. If you are in from out of town this is one restaurant that you don't want to miss. Or if you want to have a party, Tavern on the Green is the place. Relative to the quality of the overall experience that you will take in, it is quitew moderately priced.
  • The Black Sheep 334 W. 11th St. Washington St. 212-242-1010. Located in the West Village, this is a great place to bring your family. You will feel that you are not in the city while you are eating.
  • Top of the Sixes 5th bet. 52nd & 53rd NY, 212-757-6662. If nothing else, the view from atop this midtown skyscraper makes it worth having lunch here. Unfortunately the gorgeous view that you will encounter does not coincide with the quality of the food.
  • Union Square Cafe 21 E 16th St. bet 5th Ave & Union Sq. W. 212-243-4020 The best overall restaurant in the city. With consistently excellent and attentive service, and quality New American cusine if you are even near Union Square how could you pass this up? On top of all these great qualities, the price is so fair that you wi ll probably be shocked to see how modest the bill will be.
  • Vince & Eddie's 68th bet. Columbus & Central Park West NY, 212-721-0068. Located near Lincoln center, your best bet is to go during off-peak hours. Unless you don't mind being packed in there with the rest of the city. Otherwise you will encounter excellent waiter service and a hospitable atmosphere.
  • West Bank Cafe 42nd at 9th. 212-695-6909. Warm setting with a bar and grill, downstairs it has a comedy club. Makes feel and wish that you were young again.
  • Westside Brewing Company Amsterdam at 76th NY, 212-721-2161. An excellent microbrewery. If you are into beer, and ales this is one place you won't want to miss. You should try the fruitbeers in the summer. Unfortunately the food is not the same quality as the beer.
  • Zephyr Grill 1st at 49th St. NY, 212-663-1313 212-223-4200. A good find if you are around 1st or 2nd Ave. Draws big from the UN.
