Where to Sled, Cross-Country Ski, and Tube in New York City

Did you know that 2006 had the most snow ever recorded in New York City?  We’ve been waiting since then for some serious sledding or tubing weather, and it looks like it’s finally here.  So, dust off those Flexible Flyers, sand down the toboggans, and grab your snow tube and head to the hills. If we get enough snow, cross-country skiing in both the parks and down the avenues is entirely possible, too.

Free Outdoor Summer Concert Series in NYC: Classical, Jazz, Opera, Broadway and more

No matter how hot it is outside, or even if the weather turns rainy, free (and mostly outdoor) entertainment during the summer is a key part of New York City culture.  Grab a blanket, a bottle of wine, and some friends and enjoy a picnic as you listen to some of the city’s most glorious theater and music offerings… free of charge.  Do note that some of these events require you to arrive significantly early to get a spot.  It’s always best to pre-arrange a meeting time with your friends so you can take turns holding your turf.

Free Things to Enjoy in New York City This Summer

There’s a reason why New York City is the #1 vacation destination in the US.  Both visitors and locals appreciate its diversity and energy – actually, that’s why those of us “locals” live here all year.  But, to live here all year, it’s important to know how to enjoy the city while going easy on your pocketbook.  When it’s warm outside, New York City shows off its finery with concerts, recreational activities, art, and more.  And the cost of public transportation to enjoy them?  Well, it’s a mere pittance in reality, and you can also enjoy the entertainment value of what’s happening underground as well.

Here are some of our favorite things to do that are absolutely, positively free.

Best Places to Visit in Central Park, Part 1

Memorial Day is the official kick-off to summer, and Central Park is one of the city’s favorite outdoor destinations throughout the season.  The proverbial “lung” of New York City, Central Park is where you’ll see all sorts of activities happening, from people doing absolutely nothing and “chilling” to kids and families exploring and enjoying every corner with a myriad of things to do.  While we could write chapters about everything you could visit, here are some of our favorite spots in the park.  www.centralparknyc.org

A British Weekend Tour

If you’re British and have a few vacation days to fly across the pond, then there are a few places that should be on your must-see list – and we’re not talking about the Statue of Liberty, Empire State Building and Ellis Island, as nice as they are.

All Brits are fans of The Beatles (so are we if truth be told) so take the subway and head for 72nd Street to begin your tour.
